He Shot the Father at Child Pickup — Now He's Charged With Murder, Harris County Cops Say

A routine custody exchange in northeast Houston turned into a deadly confrontation Tuesday, leaving one man dead and his alleged killer behind bars.

What should have been a simple child pickup ended in gunfire on Blue Timbers Court in Harris County — and investigators say a love triangle was at the center of it all.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies say Gary Davis, 38, opened fire on Marlon Sanders, 36, as Sanders arrived with his wife to pick up a child. Sanders was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

According to investigators, Sanders’ wife had been in a relationship with Davis while she and Sanders were separated — and she has an infant fathered by Davis. When the couple pulled up to complete the exchange, Davis allegedly rushed out of the home and shot Sanders as he stood beside his vehicle.

Harris County Precinct 3 Constable deputies were first on scene. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that multiple units responded, including homicide detectives, K-9 units, air support, and the violent criminal apprehension team.

Davis was taken into custody and booked into Harris County Jail on a murder charge. No bond information or court date has been released at this time.

The infant was not injured.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
