Children Found in Car After Dad Allegedly Tried to Kidnap Someone — Then Led Cops on 60-Minute Highway Chase

ARiverside County man is behind bars after an attempted kidnapping in Moreno Valley set off a dramatic, hour-long police chase across two counties — with two children strapped inside the suspect’s vehicle the entire time.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office were called to Sweetgrass Drive in Moreno Valley just after 8 p.m. Saturday on a report of an attempted kidnapping. By the time they arrived, the suspect was already gone.

“After an intervention technique, the white Prius came to a stop near Rosemead Boulevard and Bruin Avenue in South El Monte.”

Authorities quickly spotted the suspect’s white Toyota Prius — but when they tried to stop it, the driver refused to yield. What followed was a high-speed chase westbound on State Route 60, cutting through the San Gabriel Valley deep into Los Angeles County.

Deputies deployed a tactical intervention technique near South El Monte, forcing the vehicle to stop around 9:15 p.m. Video from the scene shows deputies shattering the driver’s-side window and pulling the suspect out of the car.

Two children were found inside. Authorities confirmed the kids were known to the suspect and were not the intended kidnapping victims. The attempted abduction was ultimately unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect was booked on four charges:

  • Charge 1 Domestic Battery
  • Charge 2 Attempted Kidnapping
  • Charge 3 Child Endangerment
  • Charge 4 Evading a Peace Officer

No injuries were reported from the chase or the arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
