A tense confrontation between FBI agents and a man in a Cadillac SUV turned deadly Thursday afternoon in Chicago’s Homan Square neighborhood, leaving a 25-year-old dead and his family demanding justice.
What Went Down on West Lexington Street
Shortly after 3 p.m., federal agents moved in on a Cadillac SUV parked in the 3700 block of West Lexington Street on Chicago’s West Side. Within minutes, gunfire erupted. When the smoke cleared, the man behind the wheel was dead.
Chicago Fire Department confirmed the fatality at the scene. The SUV was left riddled with bullet holes — neighbors said they counted at least 15 shots.
Was He Armed? FBI Isn’t Saying
Authorities have not confirmed whether the man fired at agents. Sources indicate he was being sought in connection with a bank robbery. What is confirmed: after the shooting, agents in full tactical gear — helmets, protective vests, rifles drawn — approached the heavily damaged vehicle and pulled the man’s body from the driver’s seat.
Neighbor Watched It All From His Balcony
A Homan Square resident of over 20 years, who asked not to be identified, said he had a direct view of the incident.
“He came up through the sunroof and started spraying bullets, and they sprayed back at him,” he said. “I was diving on the floor when the shots took place.”
Another resident, Felica Fort, summed up what many in the neighborhood feel.
“This is everyday life,” she said. “All we can do is watch and try to avoid it.”
Family Identifies Victim, Rejects FBI’s Account
The victim’s brother identified him as 25-year-old Abdul and insisted he was simply visiting a relative near Lexington Street and Independence Boulevard — not there for any confrontation.
“For him to just be sitting in the car and them to shoot him, they wanted him dead,” he said. “He would never shoot at the police. That’s suicide by cop. He’s not stupid.”
FBI Under Internal Review
In a brief statement, the FBI said: the shooting is now under review by its Inspection Division, per standard policy. No additional details were released Thursday.
As of Thursday evening, Chicago police have not released an official statement. The full circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
This is a developing story. Updates will be added as more information becomes available.
