A peaceful evening at a Baltimore playground turned violent when two armed men drove up and opened fire — striking an 11-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man. Officers arrived at Pennsylvania Avenue and Dolphin Street around 7:40 p.m. and found both victims with gunshot wounds. The child is in serious but stable condition; the man is stable.
Investigators believe the adult was the intended target and the child was an innocent bystander. One suspect used a rifle. Other children were on the playground at the time.
“You’ve got two cowards pull up in a vehicle… and shoot indiscriminately, with a rifle, toward a playground where other kids were playing.” — Police Commissioner Richard Worley
Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the shooting, saying, “11-year-old children playing on playgrounds should not have to duck bullets.” Commissioner Worley added that the suspects likely live nearby and urged the community to come forward.
