Armed Teen Robbed a Man of His Own Gun at Gunpoint in Joplin — Then Tried to Hide It Before Police Arrived

JOPLIN, Mo. — A brazen armed robbery near West B Street and North Joplin Avenue Wednesday evening left a local man without his firearm — and a 19-year-old behind bars.

According to court filings by Joplin Police Detectives, Jaxon Metcalf drove up alongside the victim in a dark blue Jeep Cherokee. He pointed a black handgun at the man, stepped out of the vehicle, and pulled the victim’s Glock 19 directly from his holster. Metcalf then racked the slide in front of him and said, “You just got robbed.”

Detectives tracked Metcalf to a residence at 2207 E. 22nd St., where he was taken into custody. Officers found the stolen Glock 19 inside the home. According to police, Metcalf was actively attempting to hide the firearm when officers arrived.

A check with dispatch confirmed Metcalf is a convicted felon — legally prohibited from owning or possessing any firearm.

Charges filed by Jasper County Prosecutor

  • Robbery – 1st Degree (§570.023)
  • Armed Criminal Action (§571.015)
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Exhibiting (§571.03)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm – Dangerous Felon (§571.07)

Metcalf is expected to be transferred to Jasper County Jail in Carthage, Missouri, where bond is anticipated to be set.
