He Was Just Walking Home — A Driver Ran Him Over and Sped Away Into the Night. Now He's Dead.

A hit-and-run on Detroit’s east side has left a man in his 60s dead and a killer driver still on the loose — and police are desperately asking the public for help.

A quiet Tuesday night on Detroit’s east side turned deadly when a man was mowed down by a vehicle — and the driver didn’t even slow down.

Detroit Police responded at approximately 9:45 p.m. to the intersection of Frankfort Street and Dickerson Avenue, where they discovered a man believed to be in his 60s lying in the road, critically injured from the impact.

Despite emergency efforts, the man did not survive. His identity has not yet been released by authorities, pending notification of his family.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision and remains at large. No description of the vehicle has been publicly released as of this report, and it is unclear whether the driver was aware of what they had done — or simply chose to run.

“Our heart goes out to the family, and we ask that anyone in the public provide us with assistance.” — Officer Jalon Nelson, Detroit Police Department

A man simply walking in his own neighborhood — something millions of people do every single day — never made it home. And the person responsible is still out there.

What Happens Next: Detroit Police homicide unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and canvassing for witnesses. The clock is ticking — hit-and-run cases grow significantly harder to solve with every passing hour.

If you saw anything near Frankfort Street and Dickerson Avenue on Tuesday night, authorities need to hear from you immediately.
